The Donors
Embryo donors can be IVF program patients, who still have, after completing their families (childbirth), some non-used cryopreserved embryos in the bank. If donating patients have voluntary given a written informed consent for donation, these embryos can be donated to infertile married couples or single women. The recipients should be provided with donor phenotypic portraits.
According to Article 35 of the Russian Federation Citiziens' Health Protection Law (22.07.1993 № 5487-I), donors personality constitutes medical secret.
Embryos for donation can also be obtained through fertilization of donated oocytes with donated sperm.
Anonymous professional sperm donors in AVA-Peter clinic are sporty healthy well educated men between 25 and 40 years of age who have own healthy children. They have pleasant appearance but no bright dominating features, so that the baby has high possibility to inherit the looks of the mother
According to Decree N67, and in compliance with ASRM and ESHRE recommendations (American Society for Reproductive Medicine. 2002 ; ESHRE Task Force on Ethics and Law 2002), sperm donors in our clinic undergo the following examination:
1. Sperm test
2. Blood group test
3. HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C (every 3 months)
4. Genetic screening: genetic family history, chromosome screening.
5. Annual appointment with a Therapeut (general health checkup).
6. Annual appointment with psychiatrist.
7. Annual appointment with urologist incl. tests for genital infections (Chlamydia, Herpes, and others every 6 months).
Only frozen-thawed sperm is allowed for use in AVA-Peter clinic. A sample is frozen and stored 6 months, after which the donor repeats his blood test for HIV, Hepatitis B and C. If the result which shows no infection, the sperm can be used for a patient. Only frozen sperm use helps to avoid transmission of such serious infections as HIV, Hepatitis B and C.
Anonymous professional egg donors (ovum donors) can be healthy women of the age of 20-35, having healthy child/children. These conditions comply with the requirements of the European Society for Human Reproduction (ESHRE Task Force on Ethics and Law 2002). In case of a "known" egg donor (“own” egg donor) age limit can be raised.
The age of anonymous egg donors accepted in AVA-PETER averages 28.
Egg donor screening in our clinic starts with an initial interview to evaluate general abilities and intellectual capacity of a candidate.

- Clinical blood test (RBC, WBC, hemoglobin) (every month)
- Clinical urine test
- Biochemical blood test (liver and kidney values, sugar, protein) (every month)
- Blood coagulation (every month)
- Electrocardiography (every year)
- Lung X-ray (every year)
- Cytology smear (every year)
- Bacteriology smear (every month)
- Smears for genital infections (Chlamydia and others) (every 6 months)
- Annual appointment with general practitioner.
- Annual appointment with psychiatrist.
